Making everything from scratch using the best ingredients available, the team at Amy’s creates both European and classic pastries along with a variety of artisan breads, soups using house-made stock, plus salads and sandwiches. They also offer daily specials, which can be found on their Facebook page, with past highlights being curry sweet potato soup, Mexican lentil soup, and a chicken sandwich with mozzarella, cranberry chutney, cheddar, and bacon.

Enticing options on the current menu include pan-roasted duck breast with French green lentils, caramelized apple, and sauce bigerade and house-made potato gnocchi with butter, diced tomato, fresh herbs, and shaved parmesan. Tantalizing desserts, an impressive wine list, plus several specialty cocktails are also offered.

Superfresh! Organic Cafe

Located in the heart of downtown, Superfresh! Organic Cafe is a restaurant set along the Connecticut River featuring healthy vegetarian and vegan cuisine. A community supported restaurant, the culinary team seeks out the freshest ingredients, which are non-GMO and free of gluten, dairy, soy, egg, and peanuts, from regional farmers. The menu offers tasty options such as oven-baked pancakes with chocolate chips, strawberries, and bananas, the falafel wrap with raw falafel, various veggies, and a house-made ‘tzatziki’ sauce, and raw lasagna made with layers of zucchini, marinara, cashew cheese, fresh herbs, and basil-nut parm. Many beverages, including fresh juices and smoothies are available as well.

T.J. Buckley’s

Owned by Chef Michael Fuller, T.J. Buckley’s is an intimate, fine-dining restaurant tucked inside a renovated diner car. With a total of eight tables, the space is cozy and romantic and features an open kitchen where discerning diners can watch all the action. Procuring the freshest products from local purveyors, the chef changes the menu often in order to reflect the best seasonal ingredients. Rather than have a printed menu, the server tells seated guests which dishes are available for the night, which usually includes three appetizers, four entrées, and four desserts. A selection of beer and wine are also available at this local gem.

Top of the Hill Grill

Top of the Hill Grill specializes in BBQ, Mexican and Cajun recipes. Guests will have the option of sitting on the patio or inside the heated deck house both of which afford lovely views of the natural landscape. Making everything from scratch using the freshest ingredients available, the menu has something for everyone, including vegetarians. Highlights include hickory smoked beef brisket with coleslaw, corn bread, baked beans and sauce; red beans and rice served with corn bread; and the Cajun catfish sandwich with a chipotle-lime sauce.

Whetstone Station

Whetstone Station is an experimental brewery and restaurant serving unique dishes inspired by local ingredients. Established by Tim and Amy Brady and David Hiler, this downtown venue creates a great selection of brews but never creates the same beer twice. Two outdoor decks provide gorgeous views and guests can choose from a variety of seasonal items including small plates to sandwiches to entrées. Delicious highlights include the parmesan-basil encrusted salmon served with herbed rice and sautéed baby kale and the roasted Buddha bowl with various veggies, rice, and a vegan chili ‘cream’ sauce.
