Top 10 Places To Catch Live Music In Houston

Morgan Cronin

While Austin, Texas may be the live music Capitol, Houston doesn’t lag far behind. With many national acts calling Houston home, it’s no wonder that the city has a great music scene. Be it local or national bands, here are some of our favorite places to catch shows and enjoy music.

Fitzgerald’s

1. Fitzgerald’s

Fitzgerald’s

Fitzgerald’s, or Fitz, as it is commonly referred to, is one of the oldest live music venues in Houston. The venue hosts acts from across the whole music spectrum. While temporarily closed to undergo renovations and new management, Fitzgerald’s will be up and running next month with a facelift and some great shows to kick off their makeover. One of the coolest things about Fitz is there really is not a bad seat in the house; whether you’re front and center or in the upper balcony, you’re sure to have a good experience.

2. Walter’s Downtown

Walter’s Downtown

Once located off of Washington, Walter’s Downtown has taken residency in a new, bigger location downtown next to UH- Downtown. The venue typically hosts metal and punk bands, but has an eclectic mix of genres thrown in as well. Going to shows at Walter’s Downtown feels like being at an abandoned warehouse repurposed with live music. Walter’s open floor plan and back patio area make this place a great place to hear your favorite tunes.

Calling itself, ‘The granddaddy of all local music venues,’ The Continental Club draws in crowds to enjoy the music, décor and rockabilly vibe. If you’re in the mood to find a new band to get into, stop by. You’re in good hands.

Warehouse Live is the glue that holds it all together. Hosting names such as Drake, Phantogram and a slew of others, Warehouse Live’s intimate setting sets itself apart from other venues. 7. House of Blues

House of Blues

If you haven’t heard of House of Blues, it’s okay to come out from under your rock. With Houston being the nation’s fourth largest city, it’s no wonder a high profile venue like House of Blues occupies space in Downtown. What sets House of Blues apart from other venues is its full bar and restaurant, in addition to its intimate Bronze Peacock room that’s a little smaller than the main room where most of the bigger shows are held.
