Coos Bay, situated along the dramatic Oregon coastline, boasts a wide choice of local restaurants, each featuring delicious flavors. Choose from authentic Italian food, sushi, local seafood, legendary pizzas, German specialties or award-winning subs, plus much more. Here are ten must visit places to experience the very best of the Coos Bay food scene.

Abby’s Legendary Pizza

With a long-standing presence in Coos Bay, this Pacific Northwest restaurant chain, with its vintage décor and arcade games, is reminiscent of old-time pizza houses. Abby’s dishes up an extensive list of big round table pizzas, with a choice of creative toppings, and all made with the freshest ingredients. Opt for a thin-crust, deep-dish or gluten-free crust, and then pick and choose from a great range of toppings. Alternatively, go for a ready-made pizza such as the Greek Vegetarian, which is packed with artichokes and feta cheese, or the Poor Boy Special loaded with bacon, beef and fresh tomatoes. Prices are very reasonable given the size and quality of the pizzas, and the spacious dining area makes Abby’s a great option for large groups.

City Subs

Tokyo Bistro

This top-notch restaurant serves up a mouthwatering blend of modern and traditional Japanese food, emphasizing local seafood, handcrafted produce and fresh ingredients. The chefs demonstrate a strong commitment to experimenting with adventurous flavor combinations, using innovative techniques and delivering beautifully presented dishes. Be sure to try the Missoyaki mussels and the blackened tuna sashimi. The live music on Sunday nights, as well as the superb selection of wines, combine to create a memorable dining experience.

Blue Heron Bistro

If you’re in search of some traditional German cuisine and great beer in Coos Bay, look no further than the Blue Heron Bistro. Dishing up authentic food since 1976, the Blue Heron has a cozy, nostalgic feel and draws a big local crowd. The restaurant prides itself on its many homemade products and dishes, from its freshly baked German sourdough to its rich gravies, warming potato salad, and comforting desserts. The beer is reason enough to pay a visit, with a wide array of German varieties to choose from, along with recommended pairings for the food.

The Couch House Restaurant & Lounge

Known for its steaks, ribs and seafood cooked barbecue-style, The Couch House enchants tourists and locals alike with its historic surrounds, scrumptious food and lively atmosphere. Be sure to try the ribs, bacon-wrapped tuna, or barbecued oysters, along with one of the large salads. The meat is responsibly sourced, cooked fresh on the barbecue, and served perfectly tender and moist. The Couch House also features a relaxing outdoor seating area, which is heated in the winter and in full bloom during the summer months.

Lupita’s Mexican Restaurant

This authentic restaurant serves some of the best Mexican food in the area, and its location right along Highway 101 makes it a convenient stop for those passing through. At Lupita’s you can expect great flavor, seriously large portions, and very fast service. Highlights from the menu include the fish tacos, burritos, and roasted pork, along with a wide array of condiments, including the legendary homemade habanero sauce. If you’re feeling really hungry, you can even opt for the restaurant’s taco eating challenge for the chance to get even more tacos at no charge.

Sumin’s

Nestled in the historic downtown area, Sumin’s is one of the best places in town for sushi, Korean and Chinese food. The sushi, which is fresh, generally portioned and prepared with great skill and care, is the real star at Sumin’s. But the other dishes that populate the menu are also well worth a try, particularly the teriyaki chicken, tempura vegetables and egg rolls. Lunch specials are available, or if you’re visiting in the evening, opt for a combination dinner, which consists of four different dishes, served alongside a soup or salad. A small family-run restaurant, with an intimate ambience and friendly service, you’ll be guaranteed a warm welcome.

Sharkbites Seafood Cafe

With a loyal local following, Sharkbites has won awards for serving up some of the best seafood along the Oregon Coast. From the bread, fries, sauces, desserts and even the cocktail mixes, all of the food is prepared from scratch using the freshest of ingredients. The fish tacos, Dungeness crab cakes, clam chowder, burgers, and calamari all come highly recommended, as do the Southwestern slaw tacos, which come packed full of beer-battered cod, Monterey Jack cheese and guacamole. Wash it all down with a refreshing bloody mary, Moscow Mule or margarita, and be sure to check out the quirky surf shop before you leave.
