6 Beautifully-Designed Restaurants In NYC

Hope Misterek

Famous for its glitz and glamour, it’s no surprise that New York City is home to some of the most stunning restaurants in the world. Notable for their outstanding fare and highly visual design flair, Culture Trip profiles six of the most beautifully-designed restaurants in New York – from the elegant to the ultra-trendy.

Buddakan

Designed by Christian Liaigre, Buddakan is a stunning eatery located at the end of the Chelsea Market. Upon entering the restaurant, you feel as though you’re walking into a grand hotel lobby. A dramatic yet tasteful chinoiserie theme is carried throughout the space, featuring large-scale paintings in the bar area and a view of the majestic banquet area with enormous chandeliers and long tables. The small details, including wax-covered candle holders and exotic bird taxidermy housed inside Chinese cabinets, make Buddakan one of New York City’s most cultural and atmospheric restaurants.

Spice Market

Located in New York City’s trendy Chelsea neighborhood, Spice Market is a Southeast Asian-inspired eatery designed by Jacques Garcia. The interior feels like a hidden Eastern city, featuring artifacts from India and Malaysia. A pagoda serves as the focal point of the dining room. Spice Market exudes an exotic yet cozy atmosphere, part street market, part zen palace. For a casual yet cultural dining experience, Spice Market is a must-try.

ABC Kitchen

Located on East 18th street, ABC Kitchen features a minimalist, white-washed aesthetic with rustic accent points in an inspiring mix-and-match aesthetic. Unexpected style pairings in the way of light fixtures and dishware all work together to enhance this eatery’s rustic, European feel. The worn and chipped doorway, trendy bar and peeling silver floral mirror are elegantly chic, fostering a light and airy atmosphere that is both charming an contemporary.

2. The Russian Tea Room

Restaurant, Tea Room, Russian

The Russian Tea Room is a remarkable New York City icon, well worth at least one visit as it celebrates nearly 90 years of business in Midtown. The interior features an abundance of gold and jewel tones, fostering an atmosphere that is both nostalgically luxurious and richly aristocratic. The Russian Tea Room exudes a visual “wow factor,” with golden trees and fabergé eggs, glass and gold bears and golden mirrors.

3. The NoMad Hotel

Hotel

Located on Broadway and 28th street, The NoMad Hotel houses several rooms for dining and drinking, all exuding an classic, old-world European feel. Dark wood, fine furniture and dim lighting are situated beneath high ceilings, paired with careful details such as modern photographs and a library filled with books for a hip yet stodgy vibe.

Le Cirque

Le Cirque truly optimizes New York City’s prestigious uptown vibe. Designed by Adan Tihany, this classic restaurant boasts a playful circus theme with a contemporary twist, featuring a tented ceiling and elephant sculptures, all paired with an East Side hint of elitism.
