Chrissy Pak

Silver Spring is a charming little town tucked away in Maryland. To start your day off right, we’ve put together a list of the best 10 places to grab a hearty weekend brunch.

Silver Spring

Scion

A friendly neighborhood restaurant that prides itself on its warm, welcoming atmosphere, Scion serves contemporary American cuisine. This is paired with delicious craft beer, which they are passionate and knowledgeable about. Due to their well-deserved popularity, they can get crowded at peak brunch times, especially in the low-key bar area. However, they more than make up for it by offering bottomless mimosas during brunch as well as tasty finger food. Try the lobster hash with hollandaise eggs, which comes with three different types of potatoes, or ask the friendly staff for their recommendation.

Eggs Benedict

Perfect for the vintage lover, this antique-filled heirloom-style restaurant first opened in 1930. Mrs. K’s is situated in what was once the last operating tollhouse in Montgomery County. According to rumor, it also served as a speakeasy during Prohibition. The original Mrs. K was an antique aficionado, and the Heirloom Corner still houses one of the finest collections of Lutz glass in America. Featured are the intricate lace pattern and exquisite pigmentation for which this glassblower is famed. The brunch itself is a buffet with a carving station, custom omelet station, freshly made Belgian waffles, breakfast meats, scrambled eggs, oysters on the half shell, and other assorted breakfast delicacies.

Named after the mother of the first mestizo, or half-Mexican and half-Caucasian individual, La Malinche believes in rooting themselves in their history and heritage. Ask the staff about the history behind La Malinche and they will be happy to tell you about the woman who went from being Hernán Cortés’s slave to being his interpreter and trusted confidante. Their food is also firmly rooted in a blending of Spanish and Mexican cuisine. Delectable findings include bacon-wrapped dates, mushroom tapas, chicken croquettes, and patatas bravas. For a reasonable price, you can get the entire brunch tapas platter and unlimited mimosas, sangria, or beer.

This adorable little cafe, tucked away on a side street, has an unassuming exterior and minimalist interior – though the small tables do come equipped with charming umbrellas. The food more than compensates for the quiet decor as the Fenton brunch special comes highly recommended. Their delicious crepes are the main attraction. Try the banana and Nutella crepe to satisfy a morning sweet tooth, or swap out the banana for strawberries if you want something a little sweeter. If that’s too much sugar early in the day, try the savory spinach, artichoke, and feta option. For the pragmatic brunch lover, Fenton Café also offers Wi-Fi and street parking right in front of the cafe, as well as a parking lot just around the corner.
