Zaika gets its name for the word for ‘taste’ in India. Owner Bobby came into the culinary world by accident, but now the challenge of running a restaurant every day is his passion. Bobby left Azitra, another popular Indian restaurant that he co-owned, to start a new venture with a set of dishes originating from the Indian sub-continent. Customers rave about the quality of Zaika’s food, full of fresh vegetables, meats, and wonderful spices. Try the Kauli Manchurian, a dish of cauliflowers sautéed in a soy-tomato-garlic sauce.

Infinitus PIE

Infinitus PIE is the place to find delicious and carefully made pizzas. The father-and-daughter team are passionate about pizza, and they aim to create inventive recipes while leaving a lot of customization up to the customers. The team is truly dedicated to its community. During a monthly fundraiser called ‘iPIE 10 Day,’ 31.4% of the proceeds of the day go to a designated charity. The $180 million dream fund is another chance to give back to the community. Tips are collected in the restaurant to fund scholarships for local students.

2. Kachina Southwestern Grill

Kachina Southwestern Grill

Tucked away in a sea of chain restaurants is a fantastic local spot for a spicy Southwestern brunch, lunch, or dinner. Take advantage of great weather on the beautiful patio, complete with a fireplace to keep customers warm in the evenings. During brunch hours, the chorizo Benedict is a favorite. If you plan to take the rest of the day off, try Kachina’s bottomless mimosas. Classic Southwestern flavors come out in the chefs’ inventive dishes, like the chipotle shrimp and waffles (blue corn and jalapeño waffles served with grilled corn salsa and chipotle butter) or the Colorado bison empanada (a pastry stuffed with bison meat and topped with chipotle honey-agave, capers, and raisins). During happy hour, from 2-6pm, prices on drinks, appetizers, tacos, and some entrées are significantly lowered.

Mì Quảng

3. Pho Duy

Restaurant, Vietnamese

It’s a bold statement, but many customers who dine at Pho Duy claim it is the place for the best tasting pho in the greater Denver area. In the restaurant’s pho, the flavors of the meat, vegetables, and spiced broth mingle to create a simple but exquisite rich flavor. Unlike some pho restaurants, Pho Duy also serves plenty of other dishes. Try the mi quang, noodles dyed yellow with turmeric powder and served with quail eggs, shrimp, pork, and banana blossoms. You’re guaranteed to be pleased with your meal as well as the attentive service and reasonable prices.

4. Early Bird Restaurant

Owners and chefs Daniel and Kristen Cofrades have created a great local spot to find great organic, made from scratch food. Come into Early Bird for brunch and try a supper waffle. This waffle combines the beloved breakfast waffle with delicious, savory toppings. The Cubano is topped with ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard, tomatoes, and eggs. Take a more traditional route instead with an order of eggs or pancakes. Or, spice your morning up with the breakfast tacos (corn tortillas filled with scrambled eggs, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream, and shishito peppers with an option of BBQ pork). The menu changes seasonally to use the freshest ingredients possible.

5. Big Dog Deli

Deli, American

Big Dog Deli is one of the best examples of the well-known adage ‘don’t judge a book by its cover.’ This hole-in-the-wall deli has looks that might lure you into moving elsewhere to find lunch, but its sandwiches are made with great attention to detail. You can’t go wrong with any of the dog-themed sandwich choices. Try the popular Mastiff, an Italian sub, or the Big Dog, a prime rib sandwich. The no-frills sandwiches have just the right balance of ingredients, with juicy meats and fresh veggies wrapped up in warm, soft bread.

The Burns Pub & Restaurant

The Burns Pub & Restaurant is an authentic British pub with a great selection of Scotch. You’ll see plenty of classic pub food options — fish and chips, bangers and mash, shepherd’s pie, and more. For dessert, try the sticky toffee pudding or Irish crème brûlée. The restaurant is attached to the Hilltop Inn, a cozy place to stay in Broomfield, and guests at the inn are welcome to a selection of delicious British-inspired breakfasts. Also attached is the Wildflowers English Tea Room, a lovely place to spend an afternoon sipping tea and munching miniature sandwiches and other sweet treats.

6. Scalzotto Italian Restaurant

Restaurant, Italian

The traditional Italian cuisine prepared at Scalzotto has its origins in Vicenza, Italy, where the restaurant’s chefs studied. What makes Scalzotto’s meals pop is the combination of traditional flavors and modern recipes. The chefs source local ingredients to create the freshest dishes, and they aim to prepare simultaneously healthy and tasty meals that anyone will enjoy. The portion sizes are perfect for saving a bit of room for a dessert of tiramisu. Try the melt-in-your-mouth four-cheese gnocchi or the pasticcio, a traditional lasagna dish.

Big Mac & Little Lu’s Seafood Restaurant

Enjoy an excellent seafood lunch at Big Mac and Little Lu’s. This family-owned restaurant and market brings fresh seafood from the Florida Keys to Colorado every day. For an appetizer, try Lu-Lu’s sweet and spicy shrimp, a dish of fried shrimp and slaw tossed with house-made honey Sriracha sauce. For your entrée, try the almond-crusted hogfish with the restaurant’s house-made stone crab mustard sauce served with Caribbean rice and vegetables. Owner Paul got the inspiration for many of his ingenious dishes during his travels through the West Indies.
