Good food is a given in San Francisco, but sometimes it can be hard to pinpoint the best restaurants in an area without checking them out yourself. This list will help you out with your Inner Richmond restaurant search, featuring some of the best well known or overlooked places to get your chow on. Did you know – Culture Trip now does bookable, small-group trips? Pick from authentic, immersive Epic Trips, compact and action-packed Mini Trips and sparkling, expansive Sailing Trips.

Burma Superstar

After spending more than a couple days in San Francisco, it is highly likely that you will hear someone mention Burma Superstar, and once you give it a try you will understand why. Even if you arrive before Burma Superstar opens, there will be others waiting to get into the restaurant. Later in the evening, the wait extends to far over an hour. Be sure to try the samusa soup, their famous tea leaf salad, and the rose tea, all are exceptional. Always ask for suggestions, as the staff is beyond friendly.

Chapeau!

This perfect date night restaurant serves French cuisine in a simple and romantic setting. Not only does the head chef of the restaurant often come out to make sure that everything is alright, but all of the staff members are highly attentive, genuine and friendly. The foie gras at Chapeau! gets rave reviews all around and isn’t something to miss out on. If you leave room for dessert be sure to get the baked Alaska.

Giorgio’s Pizzeria

Giorgio’s Pizzeria

A charming old school pizzeria, Giorgio’s is without question the best pizzeria in Inner Richmond. The pizza will make you reminisce about your childhood, and the old school tablecloths and decorations will send you right back to the good-old-days where eating pizza every day was acceptable. Giorgio’s is usually busy, but the wait won’t be as long as some of the other restaurants in the area, so if you’re starved, head to the pizzeria.

The Richmond

Steak with grilled mushrooms, tomato and potato toppings

Balboa Street, especially in the Inner Richmond, isn’t exactly known for fine dining, and from the outside The Richmond can easily be passed up. You will be glad if you give the family run restaurant a chance, however, as it not only has some phenomenal food and friendly head chef, but it also has a great atmosphere and won’t break the bank. The restaurant serves American food and sports an extensive wine list, so don’t forgo the booze and be sure to ask for recommendations; the staff know what they are talking about.

Mandalay

Traditional Burmese Lahpet salad

Mandalay has been a longstanding attraction in the Inner Richmond (founded in 1984) and for good reason; the food is next level. Mandalay has been featured in the Michelin guide and has many of the same dishes that Burma Superstar serves, including samusa soup and tea leaf salad. If you are looking to try killer Burmese food and want to skip the wait for a larger party, make a reservation at Mandalay.

Wako

Wako is one of the only restaurants in the area to earn a Michelin star in 2016. It is on the expensive side, but so worth it as the omakase is incredible. Sitting at the sushi bar will give you the best experience in the small space, but make sure to make a reservation and leave time to find parking, you won’t be the only person headed to Wako or any of the other Michelin recommended restaurants in the area.

Le Soleil

Bun cha Hanoi is a delicious Vietnamese street food combining flavorful meatballs, rice noodles and a tangy dipping sauce.

The journey into Le Soleil begins with a charming exterior and a well decorated interior, but it doesn’t stop there. As you dine on Vietnamese food, you will be picking up the crumbs of the duck spring rolls and the lotus root salad. The shaken beef and caramelized sea bass are also to die for, and the restaurant’s atmosphere is so welcoming that you will definitely want to going back.
