Spotlight On San Francisco’s Bottom Of The Hill

Aimee Rose

The bottom of Potrero Hill holds a beloved music venue, Bottom of the Hill. The Bottom holds a cozy interior, friendly bartenders, little back patio, and the best bands out there. Plus, it’s the best place to hear live music in San Francisco!

Bottom of the Hill

The beloved music venue, bar, restaurant, and nightclub, Bottom of the Hill, sits where the four corners of Mission Bay, Design District, Dogpatch, and Potrero Hill meet. Aptly named, the venue is right at the bottom of Potrero Hill and has been chosen by Rolling Stone magazine as the ‘best place to hear live music in San Francisco.’ In addition to the cozy interior, friendly bartenders, and little back patio, you can also catch all of the best bands, who highlight a wide range of genres, playing here. The Bottom is known for hosting big bands before they became big bands. They have hosted everyone from Blink 182 and Green Day to The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and The Strokes. If you check out their current calendar, you can see that they now have shows almost every single night, and they are usually booked up seven nights a week. Some upcoming shows you can look out for are Bowling for Soup, Seoul, Wheeland Brothers, The Maine, and many more. Most shows are for all ages, but if you check their website’s calendar page, it will tell if the show is 21+. And the best news? Tickets are extremely cheap, ranging from $8 to $25, and if you purchase in advance, it is often cheaper than buying at the door. You can buy tickets online for an assured ticket, or you can take your chance and buy at the door if the website has not indicated your show is sold out. Please note that all sales are final plus non-refundable. The bar is also cash only, but for your convenience, there is an ATM in the front of the room!

The Tragic Thrills

The Bottom has street parking outside, but it is highly recommended to take an Uber or Lyft. You can also easily reach the venue by public transport — get off at the 16th St/Mission BART station and take the #22 FILLMORE east down to 17th and Connecticut, which is one block away from the club. It’s also close to the 22nd Street Caltrain station. The music is blaring at all times — sounds that you can feel throughout your body, leaving your ears ringing for hours. And isn’t that a music lover’s favorite feeling? If you want to check out the next big indie band or a group that is just getting their break, come to the Bottom. Good vibes, good drinks, and even better bands are being served here.

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
