A chic and modern restaurant, built out of stone and marble, Pyramid is a sturdy beachside restaurant that serves munch-worthy Mediterranean esculents prepared with the freshest Greek constituents. The restaurant’s garden is the fertile source of many of the ingredients, ensuring they are as fresh and well-nurtured as can be. The eatery overlooks the cerulean sea, and is a short amble from a paradisiacal natural lagoon. An extensive wine list augments the menu, and silvery musical acts regularly strum away in the evenings, filling the restaurant’s interiors with harmonious sounds. Late closing times mean that revellers can sup long into the night.

2. Etrusco

Headed by the Italian-Corfiot Botrini family, Etrusco exhibits the kinfolk’s zeal for both Italian and Greek cuisine: the restaurant won the Best Restaurant in Greece 2013 award, along with best Greek cuisine 2013 and two Golden Chef’s Hat awards. Sourcing many ingredients from its own garden, the restaurant produces trans-Mediterranean inspired dishes. Scrumptious canapés are presented atop a map with each placed over its country of origin. Banqueting in the rustic courtyard augments the Greek experience.

3. Akrotiri Café

Bar, Cafe, Mediterranean, European

Located at the North-Western end of Corfu, Akrotiri is besieged by wondrous vistas of sandy beaches and coruscating bays, making it the ideal lounge bar to recline in after tramping around the island. Atop the pinnacle of the ascent between San Stefanos and Arillas, be enveloped with the beauty of the views of the encircling bays at sunset whilst sipping on an aromatic cup of coffee. There is a breakfast and brunch menu and a selection of fresh baguettes throughout the day, as well as draught beers and cocktails, cakes and ice cream. Klimataria is a charming little family-owned restaurant in the heart of the picturesque fishing village of Benitses. With only 11 tables, the restaurant has an atmosphere of serenity infused with the intoxicating scents of Greek dishes being lovingly crafted. Fresh and seasonal produce is central to the restaurant’s menu, which therefore varies depending on the foods present at the local market; but specialities include kolokythokeftedes (zucchini balls) and fish bourdetto. It is even possible to call in advance to request a specific meal so long as you leave enough time for the proprietors to source the ingredients.

5. Old Fortress Restaurant

Restaurant, Greek

Nestled amidst the glorious environs of a grand 6th century Venetian fortress, the Old Fortress Restaurant offers up tantalising traditional Greek dishes with a distinctly Corflot twist. Guests looking to suck in convalescent breaths of sea air should perch on the veranda where they can dine whilst beholding stupendous views of Garitsa Bay and the glistening Ionian Sea. Dining at the Old Fortress Restaurant is a delicious way of immersing oneself in Corfu’s cultural heritage whilst nibbling on sumptuous local delicacies.

6. Foros

Restaurant, Greek

Located in the historic village of Paleá Períthia, Foros was one of the earliest Greek tavernas to be established there, and is now widely recognised for its exemplary cuisine. Fulsome grilled dishes are the essence of the restaurant’s menu; also recommended are the meze items like the toothsome stuffed peppers. This quaint eatery sits in the village’s main square under the dappled shade cast by a craning poplar tree. This excellent establishment has received international recognition; celebrity chef Rick Stein visited a number of times as part of his television series.

7. Glyfa Taverna

Bar, Restaurant, Greek

Situated just above the clean white beach sands of Glyfa, the Glyfa Taverna combines impeccable cuisine with breathtaking surrounds to ensure a memorable dining experience. The menu offers all manner of Greek delicacies including fresh salads, oven-baked feta, fresh salty anchovies, tender squid and pickled octopus. Highly recommended are the mussels drenched in an ouzo-infused broth, which will set your taste buds aquiver. Glyda Taverna is must-visit for beachside comestible escapades.

For freshly cooked creatures of the briny persuasion, there is no better spot in Corfu than the bounteous Boukari Beach. Stretch out your flippers in this beachside nirvana and slurp unrestrainedly on crisp white and delicate rosé wine before engaging in ravenous guzzling. Boukari Beach’s speciality dishes are not to be missed; try the grilled slippery squid filled with salty feta cheese and seasoned with fresh parsley and garlic. Fresh lobsters slink around furtively as they await their fate as a delicious meal for a ravenous diner. Boukari Beach also offers accommodation that can be booked online.

9. To Mike

Restaurant, Greek

Needle your way down Corfu’s To Mike, a restaurant opened by the eponymous Mike with the aim of delivering an unparalleled international menu to the visitants of Corfu Town. Since opening the restaurant in 2010, Mike has striven to be as sustainable as possible; all used oil is recycled as fuel and the water served is filtered and purified using up-to-date technology, reducing plastic bottle usage and waste. The diversity of the international influences is evident in menu items like the Indian chicken marsala served on chipatti bread, in contrast with the tuna on a bed of ginger dish, served with stir-fried vegetables coupled with wasabi and soya.

10. Telesilla Hotel Restaurant

Hotel

Part of the impressive family-run Telesilla Hotel, the Telesilla Restaurant is poolside gustatory haven where cuisine and cocktails combine, ensuring long languorous evenings of indulgence. Expect a heady mixture of Greek, Corfiot and international influences on the restaurant’s delightfully diverse menu. Revellers looking for a hint of excitement as a garnish to their evening’s munching should head to the Telesilla on a Saturday when a limb-flailing Greek dancing show is regularly laid on.
