YDU (Young Designers United)

YDU was set up by entrepreneur Angelika Groenendijk-Wasylewski as a means to present young Dutch couturiers’ work to the wider public. The intuitive is passionate about design and helps talented artists find a foothold in the notoriously challenging fashion industry. YDU scours the catwalk for designers that create imaginative, modern, items, and stocks high-quality, prêt-à-porter clothing.

Vanilia balances ethical design practises with exquisite fashion. The store’s collection changes each month and is completely designed in-house. Vanilia ensures that all of its materials are carefully selected from ethical sources and its clothes are produced under fair working conditions. Its largest boutique on van Baerlestraat is housed within an enormous bathhouse that has been transformed into a beautiful studio.

Francisco van Benthum

Dutch designer Francisco van Benthum has been creating luxury menswear since the early 90s and in 2012 launched his first brand-store in Amsterdam’s de Negen Straatjes. This intimate showroom was designed to resemble a traditional gentlemen’s tailor and houses van Benthum’s principle, prêt-à-porter collection. Famously, Van Benthum’s suits add modern touches to classic cuts and use a dark palate to accentuate masculine forms.

Anecdote

Anecdote is a relatively new label that is helmed by Dutch fashion designer Jetteke van der Wyck – van Beuningen. Although the store has only been open since 2009 it already has a wonderful collection and several exemplary items. Its designs elegantly combine stylish, comfortable cuts with modest patterns and the boutique creates clothes for modern, sophisticated women. Its zigzag printed suit is an absolute classic that can be worn in any setting.

Van Ravenstein

Van Ravenstein has a beautifully curated showroom on the corner of Keizergracht canal. This space is used to showcase the organisation’s outstanding catalog that has been handpicked from the catwalk and international ateliers. The store stocks an amazing range of clothing including promising Belgian, French and Dutch designers ensuring that its collection is always on the cutting-edge of fashion.

LockStock & Barrel

The founders of this luxury multi-label boutique travel across the globe to gather items for their collection. Its stock is an amazing pastiche of styles and includes minimalist Scandinavian designs, chic handmade jewelry and vintage-styled American essentials. The boutique’s showroom reflects its eclectic catalog and is decked out in deliberately discordant furniture from several different cultures.

Mart Visser

Mart Visser’s prêt-à-porter collection is stunning. The designer draws on his experiences as an haute-couturier to create elegant, comfortable womenswear that exudes sophistication. His clothes are timeless , and yet distinctly modern and keep to cuts designed around a marvelous sense of functionality. Recently, Visser launched a line of luxury suede scarves that can be worn as accessories or outwear. Please note that the prêt-à-porter collection is currently only available online. If you want to visit the exclusive store with the beautiful haute-couture collection you’ll have to get an appointment first.
