The Top 10 Local Restaurants In Bratislava, Slovakia
Over the last decade, Slovakia’s capital city has become a cultural melting pot with a culinary scene that combines Slovakian tradition with gourmet flavours and unique settings. While we decided to keep some unbeatable gems from our previous selection of Bratislava’s top 10 restaurants, here we’ve also included some exciting new additions to the local food scene. Read on to find out about the 10 best restaurants in Bratislava.
Lemontree
Arguably Bratislava’s hottest restaurant, Lemontree neighbours with the Sky Bar, creating a duo with a fabulous reputation. While the restaurant serves excellent Asian and Thai fusion cuisine, the Sky Bar is famed for its creative cocktails and stocking over 70 types of vodka; and while Lemontree’s modern-retro design featuring sleek furniture, the essential lemon tree and a grand piano with a special stage for live concerts of all genres gives a high-end experience, Sky Bar’s scenic panorama views are unbeatable during day and night. Located in the heart of the Old City, right on Hviezdoslav Square, Lemontree and Sky Bar is a unique combo where fine-dining and after-work drinks are raised to new cultural levels.

1. Antica Toscana
Restaurant, Italian
Modra Hviezda
2. Traja Mušketieri
Traja Mušketieri
A journey back in time to the 17th century, when the Three Musketeers protected the honour of their King and country; it’s Bratislava’s Traja Mušketieri, or The Three Musketeers, inspired by Alexandre Dumas’ quintessentially French tale. Although some say that its atmosphere lost some of its original spirit following renovation, the venue is still a fascinating historic, themed dining spot. Situated near the quiet neighborhood by the Presidential Palace, it’s the perfect place to sample medieval-inspired cuisine updated with modern cooking techniques – and although the menu may appear short, it’s actually curated to offer only the most mouth-watering culinary options. Quirky and unusual, The Three Musketeers is definitely worth a visit for those ready for new culinary experiences.

Liviano
As the city’s best restaurant at the top end of the culinary spectrum, Liviano’s only downside is its price. Situated within a once-Communist canteen in the Petrzalka district, it’s definitely not on the tourist radar, guaranteeing a very local meal. Bratislava locals flock here for one of the best fine dining experiences in the city – Chef Marcel Ihnacák trained with the acclaimed British master chef Jamie Oliver, which comes as clear indication of excellence and high quality. They offer two menus, one a permanent fixture based on international and Italian flavours; the other a seasonally changing selection composed of fresh, often rare ingredients, where the chef’s creativity runs free. An exclusive venue with a stylish interior décor and attentive service, Liviano is all about earthy-toned intimacy.

3. Prašná Bašta

4. PRO.Laika Gallery Restaurant
Restaurant, European
5. Reštaurácia Hrad
Restaurant, European
Nestled within the city’s greatest landmark, the Bratislava castle, Hrad enjoys a stunning terrace and unmatched views over the whole city. In addition to being a haven of seclusion from the tourists that crowd the castle in the summer months, the restaurant also cooks up delectable Slovakian specialties – hearty duck and beef stews included – making it a spot-on choice for cultural dining. Although tradition is important here, the menu also extends to more international tastes such as hamburgers and pastas, as well as cold Slovakian beers for those balmy summer afternoons.
Bratislavský Meštiansky Pivovar
As its name suggests, Bratislavský Meštiansky Pivovar, Bratislava’s top brewery, is one of the must-visit spots in the city for a real Slovakian beer. In addition to a wide array of home-brewed specialties, including lagers and wheat beers, the menu also boasts other drinks, such as the slivovitz – a national spirit usually made with plums, apricots or juniper. The food menu has a similarly dedicated, local spirit with such traditional favorites as the pivný syr (beer cheese), utopenec s feferónkami, cibuľkou a s cesnakom (pickled sausage with peppers, onion and garlic) or the tatársky biftek (steak tartar). With arched ceilings, dark wooden tables and brewing vats, the interior is designed to perfectly match the venue’s pivovar atmosphere.
