1. Dva Jelena

Restaurant Dva Jelena , meaning two deerhas been serving the best dishes of Serbian cuisine for almost two centuries. It is located on Skadarska street, in an area known as Belgrade’s Montmartre where writers and artists used to gather in the early 20th century. The restaurant is famous for the menus created in the 1920s by the famous chef Žarko Dačić. Highlights include the meat specialties, such as steak Čika Đura,and the traditional regional dessert tufahija.

2. Kalemegdanska Terasa

Kalemegdanska Terasa is a restaurant with a long history, located in the heart of Belgrade’s Old Town. Part of the Belgrade Fortress, this is a restaurant with a particularly special view. Kalemegdanska Terasa serves primarily international dishes and local Serbian specialties, like ćevapi, grilled minced meat, or leskovačka mućkalica,a stew of vegetables and barbecued meat. Enjoy your meal, listen to the music played by the orchestra and watch as the sun sets over the lower Kalemegdan and Danube river.

Sit on the terrace overlooking the river for the most enjoyable experience. Try the European seabass prepared Dalmatian-style or lamb fleftiko, with sun dried tomatoes, feta cheese and vegetables. Beton Hala or Concrete Hall is an area at the port of river Sava in the old town of Belgrade, where you’ll find quite a lot of trendy restaurants and cafés. Comunale is one of them. Founder Aleksandar Rodić created an exciting and trendy space with clear design and big wooden tables and benches. As the name suggests, the idea is to encourage community gatherings or group interactions, while enjoying delicious meals. The restaurant serves Italian food. Look out for their homemade pasta and gnocchi dishes.

5. Restoran Vodenica

Situated on a raft in Belgrade Old Town, Vodenica restaurant offers a unique dining experience. The raft is docked at the confluence of rivers Sava and Danube, under Kalemegdan fortress. Vodenica is known for fish specialities and it’s the only place in Belgrade where you can try white caviar. Don’t miss the grilled catfish or octopus with potatoes, baked in sač oven. Sač is a two piece baking tray, the bottom piece having a bell shaped lid, which is covered with coals when baking. It is well known Balkan cooking method.

6. Pire Slow Food

Pire restaurant is located right in the city center, in the quiet street of Cara Lazara. The name of the restaurant comes from mashed potato purée, and on the internationally based menu, you can find 13 side dishes of different mashed potato purées. Beside the regular dishes on the menu, you can decide for one of the two tasting menus, based on meat or fish main courses and including five dishes. The interior of the restaurant is dominated by white and wooden designs, creating a classy atmosphere.

If you want to taste the unusual mix of local Serbian, South American and Thai cuisine, Homa is where you should go. Home to one of the most well known chefs from Belgrade, Filip Ćirić, Homa offers an exquisite dining experience. Sporting a modernistic and simple design, glass fronted, with concrete floors and primarily white interior, Homa, nevertheless, has a warm and cozy atmosphere. Order the eight course degustation menu for the complete taste experience.

8. Klub Književnika

Klub Književnika (Writers’ Club) is a well known venue in Belgrade. Here, novelist Ivo Andrić gave his first speech after receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1961. Other famous visitors include Jean Paul Sartre, Richard Burton, Sophia Loren and Clint Eastwood among others. For almost 70 years this has been a place for culture lovers. Immerse yourself in the rich history of this restaurant, while enjoying national and international specialities and the finest wines. Try grilled lamb or prosciutto and dried beef, both produced locally.

Hanan is a Lebanese restaurant in the heart of Belgrade. Having opened in 2011 as a cake store, it slowly evolved to include all sorts of different sweet and savory Middle Eastern delights. Try one of their kebabs, shawarmas or kaftas. The menu also includes Palestinian specialities and Hanan pasta. Taste one of the sweet desserts, which helped the restaurant to its success. You can even try smoking a waterpipe and see belly dancers every Friday and Saturday.

10. Sakura

Located in Belgrade’s Beton hala, Sakura is a modern Asian-fusion restaurant. Offering specialities of various countries from the Far East, you can enjoy a sophisticated twist on the Asian eating experience. The restaurant’s name comes from a Japanese word for cherry blossom. Try modernized versions of traditional dishes, such as scallop carpaccio, grilled black cod or seabass usuzukuri, made from seabass, spring onions and ponzu sauce. Don’t miss the special dessert of tangerine ice cream, with chocolate fudge and wasabi ganache.
