Toulouse is a wonderful city that reflects the heritage of the ancient province of Occitanie. The distinctive red-brick buildings give the place a cheerful appearance, and the atmosphere is generally more relaxed than in the Northern French cities. Whether you are coming for business or pleasure, here is a list of Toulouse’s top central hotels – now bookable on Culture Trip.

1. Grand Hotel de l'Opéra

This is arguably Toulouse’s most famous hotel, located in a former 17th-century convent in the city’s most central square, La Capitole. The five-star abode offers luxurious rooms and suites decorated with thick carpets and marble sinks. The service is excellent and the location is perfect for visitors wishing to explore the city center. They offer hammam and sauna sessions as well as massages. The glass-roofed restaurant overlooking a courtyard serves quality food, and you can also stop at the Italian-style bar with its blue-velvet armchairs for a drink. The only drawback is that it can get noisy, especially in the rooms facing the square.

2. Hôtel Héliot

This hotel in Toulouse is situated on a quiet side street between the main station and Place Wilson. The hotel has an intimate atmosphere, containing only 12 rooms, and the staff knows how to make you feel at home. The building dates to the beginning of the 20th-century, but the rooms are spacious and were entirely renovated in 2013. Therefore, they are equipped to meet all modern comforts and demands. They offer two breakfast menus, one cheap menu consisting of a hot drink and a pastry, and a second more complete menu.

3. Le Grand Balcon

This is another hotel located right next to Capitole square. The hotel once welcomed Antoine de St Exupéry, the author of The Little Prince, after whom a suite has been named. This suite has been preserved in the style of the 1930s, with an original toilet hidden behind a screen as was the custom at that time. The rest of the hotel features an elegantly minimalist design. Again, the main drawback is that Toulouse’s center can get noisy, especially at weekends, so it’s best to keep the windows closed.

5. Hôtel Royal Wilson

This Toulouse hotel that sits among the crowded central streets holds a surprise that never ceases to amaze unsuspecting guests. The hotel has a hidden patio with an intricately patterned well and leafy plants, surrounded by vaulted doorways leading off to the different rooms. The place is magical. You can choose rooms with a shower or bath, and they offer rooms adapted to people with reduced mobility. They also provide access to a secured private garage for a fee. All their breakfast products are fresh and come from the Victor Hugo market and a local baker. You can have breakfast in your room for no extra charge.
